Opinion: Michigan Legislature, abolish sentences for juvenile lifers

The Michigan Legislature is currently considering legislation that would ban life sentences for children, and which would bring our state in line with the majority of states that agree that this practice is wrong.
In a recent editorial in the Detroit Free Press, Safe & Just Michigan Community Engagement Specialist Ronnie Waters and SADO Reentry Specialist Jose Burgos -- who were each sentenced as children to life in prison, and who together served a combined 67 years -- explained why this legislation is critical and what former juvenile lifers can offer to all of us.
